Courses for Secondary Schools

MTR Academy has always been committed to nurturing younger generations and actively supports Life Planning Education and Career Guidance Programmes.  With this as our goal, we have set up a series of courses and activities designed for secondary school students.

We hope that by introducing the industry's fundamental theories and concepts through engaging activities, we may deepen students' understanding of the railway industry whilst facilitating their discovery of personal interests and exploration of future career paths at an early stage of their studies.

Our Courses:

The "Railway Studies" course is launched as an Applied Learning subject under the HKDSE curriculum for senior secondary school students. This course covers safety in railways, railway technology and railway operations. MTR Academy supports the course as a Knowledge Partner, providing content, facilities and teaching staff.

Hong Kong College of Technology (HKCT) is the course provider of the Applied Learning Subject on "Railway Studies" whose first cohort has been already commenced in September 2018.

MTR Academy aims to raise students' interest in railway-related prospects and nurture our young generation into railway talents by offering related short courses and accredited programmes. Now, we have launched unique short courses whereby secondary school can arrange exclusive classes for students from secondary schools, namely Railway 101 and School Talk or MTR Academy Visit.

We are now introducing a campaign whereby secondary school can arrange exclusive classes for students from Secondary Form 1 and above. We believe our courses are unique and can broaden knowledge of local senior secondary schools students.

The programme first introduces the railway operation, its major equipment, as well as the stringently observed safety principles and measures, followed by a lively illustration from a fully functional railway system network model. It then takes you through the following key systems in railways, with real-life equipment in place for ready demonstration, such as Signalling and Communications, Rolling Stock, Track, Power Distribution, Automatic Fare Collection.

The programme is rounded off with you jumping into the shoes of a train driver. You will be on the driving seat at a Driver Cab Simulator, steering the train to the next station. Often organized as Other Leaning Experience by Schools, this session is inbuilt with Experiential Learning.
