1. Are the programmes offered by MTR Academy recognised in Hong Kong?
Yes, all accredited programmes offered by MTR Academy are recognised by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). Upon completion of the programmes, the qualifications of the Advanced Diploma in Railway Engineering and the Advanced Diploma in Transport Operations and Management are pitched at Qualifications Framework (QF) Level 4, while the Diploma in Transport Studies is pitched at QF Level 3.
2. Will MTR Academy provide work experience opportunities for students?
The Advanced Diploma in Railway Engineering incorporates an industrial attachment, allowing students to gain hands-on experience and develop a deeper understanding of the railway engineering working environment. The Advanced Diploma in Transport Operations and Management and Diploma in Transport Operations and Management offer students job experience opportunities at MTR stations, enabling them to gain an first-hand insight into the day-to-day operations of real-world railway systems.
3. Do the programmes offered by MTR Academy receive professional recognition?
Graduates of the Advanced Diploma in Transport Operations and Management will receive partial exemption from the educational requirements for Chartered Membership of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. (6 papers will be exempted for CILTHK's Professional Qualifying Examination)
4. Are there articulation pathways for students after completing an accredited programme at MTR Academy?
Graduates of the Diploma in Transport Studies may articulate to the Advanced Diploma programmes offered by the Academy. Graduates of Advanced Diploma programmes may, subject to academic results or personal preference, articulate to degree programmes offered by other institutions.
5. Is there any age limit for enrolling in Diploma or Advanced Diploma programmes?
There is no age limit.
6. When are part-time programmes normally conducted?
The class schedule for part-time programs is generally from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Monday to Friday (classes are not held every night). If necessary, classes may also be scheduled on Saturdays. Please refer to the official timetable for the actual schedule.
1. What documents are required for programme application?
All application procedures are conducted online. The process takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Required documents include:
(i) One recent passport-sized photograph with a white background
(ii) Academic qualifications that meet the entry requirements of the programme applied for (please refer to the Academy website), including:
- Graduation certificate(s)
- Academic transcript(s)
- Recommendation letter(s) or Other relevant supporting documents

2. How will I know if my application has been successfully submitted?
Upon successful submission of the online application form, applicants will receive a confirmation email issued by MTR Academy.
3. Are written tests or interviews required for all accredited programmes?
Applicants are generally required to attend a written test and/or interview to assess their suitability for the programme. Eligible applicants will be notified by email of the relevant arrangements.
4. Can applicants use other examination results (such as IELTS) in lieu of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) results? Can students with non-local qualifications apply?
Applicants may submit the following examination results for reference. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that they meet the Academy's admission requirements, including applying independently to the HKCAAVQ for qualification assessment when necessary.
The following qualifications are considered equivalent to HKCEE or HKDSE English Language at Level 2 / Grade E or above:
- IELTS score of 5.5 or above
- GCE English at Grade C or above
- GCE Ordinary Level English at Grade E or above
- TOEFL score of 80 or above (Internet-based) / 550 or above (Paper-based)
- International Baccalaureate (IB) English at Grade 4 or above
5. What should I do if I forget my login details for the online application platform?
Applicants may retrieve their password using the "Forget Password" function on the homepage of the online admission platform. If the login account name is forgotten, applicants should contact admissions@mtr.com.hk for assistance and state their applicant number in the email.
6. Can current HKDSE candidates apply before receiving their examination results?
Applicants may apply to MTR Academy programmes before the release of HKDSE results. After the interview, suitable applicants will receive a conditional offer. Upon release of HKDSE results, applicants who meet the conditions should submit their results to the Academy as soon as possible. A formal offer letter will then be issued.
7. I am not a current HKDSE candidate. How can I know whether my qualifications meet the Qualifications Framework requirements?
Applicants may first check their qualification(s) with the issuing authority or the HKCAAVQ via https://iportal.hkcaavq.edu.hk/.
For non-local qualifications, applicants should apply for qualification assessment in advance. Once eligibility has been confirmed, applicants may apply for the Academy's programmes. An admission written test will be arranged after the interview.
8. I only possess Mainland China National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao) results. Am I eligible to apply?
Applicants whose Gaokao results were obtained within the most recent three years (i.e. academic years 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26), who hold the right of abode or right to land in the Hong Kong SAR, and who meet the basic entry requirements of the relevant programme, are eligible to apply. An admission written test will be arranged after the interview.
1. Does MTR Academy offer scholarships or government financial assistance?
MTR Academy offers an "Applied Learning Programme Admission Scholarship". Graduates of the Applied Learning Programme – Railway Studies who are admitted to the following full-time programmes are eligible to apply:
Advanced Diploma in Transport Operations and Management – Scholarship amount: HK$10,000
Diploma in Transport Studies (Operations and Management) – Scholarship amount: HK$5,000

In addition, MTR Corporation offers the "Ride to Success" Scholarship Programme, which provides tuition fee support to first-year students of MTR Academy. This programme applies to the 2024/25 to 2027/28 academic years. For details, please click here.
Students in financial need may also apply to the Student Finance Office for the Extended Non-means-tested Loan Scheme (ENLS).
The Academy also awards cash prizes to the top three graduates in each programme in recognition of outstanding academic performance.
2. Can tuition fees be paid by instalments?
Tuition fees must be paid annually. Instalment payment is not available.
3. How can I obtain a receipt after paying the tuition fee?
An electronic receipt will be issued via email once payment has been confirmed.
